Meet the Team who make your clothes

Fashion Revolution Week is part of the #whomademyclothes campaign, which falls on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1138 people and injured many more on 24th April 2013. During this week, brands and producers are encouraged to respond with the hashtag #imadeyourclothes and to demonstrate transparency in their supply chain.

At Asquith, we promise to always put people and the planet before the profit of our bamboo yoga clothing. Nowhere is this more obvious than our wonderful, family-run factory in Turkey.

This is who made your bamboo yoga clothes

Nuray Kavaklı

I am 43 years old. I have two children. I have been working at the factory for 16 years. I started working as an assistant cutter and have now been the chief cutter of the sampling department for the last five years. I am very happy working here and do my job with great pleasure. Each new customer and the sampling periods are the exciting times for me. My work is so important because the first samples are always very important to the customers.

Meryem Özçelik

I am 32 years old. I have a daughter who is five years old. I have been working at the factory for 12 years. My job is to control each printed and embroidered piece of fabric and sort the badly made ones so that they don’t go to production. I check thousands of pieces daily. My job needs a lot of concentration and attention but I really enjoy it. I love working at the factory as I feel like I am with my family here. I hope I will be working here for many more years.

Mennur Dinç

I am 48 years old. I have two daughters. I have been working at the factory for 18 years. I am one of the oldest employees in this factory! I work on the confection department and I am a skilled machinery person. I am able to work with all types of confection machines. I like the family atmosphere we have here. I also live very close to the factory so it’s a big advantage for me. We always get good food as we have our own kitchen and our own cook who cooks delicious food for all of us.

Hamide Garip

I am 50 years old and I have a daughter and I am divorced. I am one of the milestones of the factory as I started working here the day it first opened – and I am still here! I know the story of the successful history of the company, which will be in its 25th year in July 2017. I know how small we started and where we are today, so I appreciate every single step. I live only 500m from the factory, so it has been a big advantage for me to be so close to my home, especially when my daughter was born. The factory is my second home and it’s more than my family. I started as a worker on the sewing machines but now I am the production manager. I devoted a very important part of my life to this company as if it was mine and I never regret it. I always received what I deserved financially and morally.

Mine Kaya

I am 46 years old and I started working at the factory three years ago as the chief of quality control department. I have always worked in the confection sector all my life. I have two children. My husband also works in this sector, so we understand each other very well. I know that I am working in one of the most important divisions of the factory because all the garments after my division’s control go into the boxes and are being shipped – so the final quality control of the garments, measuring, ironing, labelling and packing is under my staff’s control. I am border control for the garments – I either let them go or I stop them!

Selvi Tekin

I am 35 years old. I work in the accessory department of the company. I plan and buy of all kinds of accessories: buttons, zippers, threads, labels etc for all the garments we are producing and exporting at the factory. I have only been here for two years but I have been doing this job for 12 years; so I am quite an experienced accessories buyer. This is the second company that I have ever worked for but as the working conditions are so pleasant and friendly here, I believe I will stay here until I retire. We all get a lot of motivation especially from our boss, but there is also a great way of life where nobody is forced to make extra hours or do extra work, but they do it due to their self-discipline and for the company’s benefits. This is difficult to find in other companies. I love my job and my company and I feel successful.
