Mental Health Podcast Guide

How are you doing?

No really, how are you doing? If you - like Asquith HQ - are based in the UK, you’re in the throes of yet another lockdown. We’re all for staying positive, but times are tough.

Of course, these tough times are bound to take a toll on mental health. With access to therapeutic services and personal networks impacted by restrictions, support can seem hard to come by. Fortunately, the wonders of modern technology and the generosity of content creators mean we’re not totally without help.

As well as online therapy and excellent wellbeing apps, there’s a myriad of mental health podcasts to plug in to. Whether it’s smashing taboos, hacks for happiness or techniques to manage anxiety, there’s something for everyone.

How to Fail with Elizabeth Day

Weekly reminders that things that don’t go right are a stepping stone to things going better, with fascinating guests. Always candid; always uplifting.

The Minimalists

You’d be forgiven for thinking this was an interiors podcast – minimalism is something hosts Joshua Field Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus are passionate about. But their approach to decluttering goes beyond homes, and their thoughtful discussions about how ‘living with less’ makes room for the important things are so good, they regularly hit the top spot on the Apple health podcasts charts.

Where Should We Begin?

Ted talk giver and therapist extraordinaire Esther Perel allows us a fly-on-the-wall perspective in a series of real-life counselling sessions. There are many insights to be had, struggles skilfully articulated and space to find parallels in our own lives. Wonderful listening.

Mad World

Bryony Gordon chats with everyone from Prince Harry to frontline NHS workers about mental health or as the podcast bio would have it “getting unwell – and getting better”. Conversations that offer solidarity, wisdom and inspiration.

The Hilarious World of Depression

In its bio, The Hilarious World of Depression explains it “is a chance to gain some insight, have a few laughs, and realize that people with depression are not alone and that together, we can all feel a bit better”. John Moe is joined by an array of comedian friends to discuss how they’ve dealt with this all-too-common condition
