Asquith Adores Nominee - Green People

Asquith Adores Nominee - Green People

We caught up with the founder of organic skincare brand, Green People to find out more about their totally amazing, non-toxic skincare and just some of the many reasons we had to nominate them in the Asquith Adores Awards...

Can you tell us how/why you started your brand?

I founded Green People in 1997 and my motivation for creating an organic beauty company came from a passionate desire to help treat the eczema and allergies that my daughter Alexandra suffered as a small child. I did a lot of research and discovered that a brand only has to use less than 1% natural ingredients to claim their product is natural. The lack of gentle, natural products on the market spurred me on to create my own organic creams and salves, carefully tailored to allergy-prone skin.

From these first products a beautiful brand was born and we continue to expand our product range every year. I created my Organic Young range when my daughter was in her teens and when I was 50 I started formulating my signature range, Age Defy+ by Cha Vøhtz.

We pride ourselves on making super soft ethical yoga clothes, if your brand had to be remembered for one thing, what would it be and why?

Green People was founded on a strong set of beliefs and values to give something back to help others. Naturally, Green People does this by using fairly traded ingredients and with the support this provides to the individuals and companies it works with.

Green People’s commitment is to offer certified organic products that are sustainable and kind to the skin and the environment. Always looking to do more, each year 10% Green People’s net profit is donated to charitable causes such as Born Free and The Marine Conservation Society.

How do you ensure you stay on top of ethical/eco trends and ensure your brand is moving in the right direction as it constantly evolves?

For us, choosing to be organic is much more than a trend is something we are fully committed to. We believe that by using certified organic ingredients we are helping to protect the soil for future generations and are so conscious of being green that we’ve been ranked ethical in the Good Shopping Guide for 15 years in a row.

To improve our eco-impact we’ve been considering our packaging choices but, because we don’t use high levels of preservatives in our products, finding the perfect packaging solution has been a challenge. Most recently, we’ve introduced climate positive packaging made from Sugar Cane and whilst we continue to source even better packaging materials, we have introduced a minimum spend for free postage to encourage everyone to plan their purchases and shop more sustainably.

If you could share one tip for someone who wants to live more ethically and sustainably in 2019 what would it be and why?

We believe that by switching to organic skin care you can help to support the organic farming industry and contribute towards creating a less-polluted and more sustainable world.

As well as supporting the soil, it is important to support our marine life and as long-standing charity partners of the Marine Conservation Society we’d love to see everyone making the switch to natural, reef-safe sun cream. It is imperative that we use sun cream to protect the skin from UV harm and by choosing to use sun care that is made without ingredients known to harm coral, you can achieve gentle but effective UVA & UVB protection without harming the environment.

What is your favourite product and why?

The Line Eraser Serum is my ultimate must-have. I adore the multi-purpose nature of this product and the way it immediately hydrates. It can be applied directly to any face and neck wrinkles, even those close to the eyes, and is enriched with Plant Stem Cells which deliver a 95% increase in hydration levels. On days when I’m tired or my skin isn’t looking its best, I’ll reapply to any area that need an instant lift and extra hydration.
