Asquith Adores Nominee - Elephant Box

Introducing Elephant Box, the original stainless-steel lunchbox brand and nominee in the lifestyle category of the Asquith Adores Awards. Elephant box make sustainable storage solutions for your food. From water bottles to organic produce bags, we sat down with the team at Elephant Box to find out a little more about their products and why we think you should vote for them.

Can you tell us how/why you started your brand?

We started elephant box because we were fed up of throwing away stinky or broken plastic lunch boxes. We thought that there must be something better to carry food in. Something that wouldn’t keep breaking or becoming unusable and contributing to the already overflowing landfill. Joy is half Indian and knew about the Indian tiffins. The shape didn’t quite work for her kids packed lunches though. Try as she might the sarnies just wouldn’t fit into a stacked round tiffin!! So we set about finding someone to make a rectangular stainless steel box. It was quite hard but we managed it.

We pride ourselves on making super soft ethical yoga clothes, if your brand had to be remembered for one thing, what would it be and why?

We would like people to think of us for our quality. To know that they have spent wisely on a useful and durable product. And that they have bought from a company who have doing the leg work to make sure that their products are produced fairly.

How do you ensure you stay on top of ethical/eco trends and ensure your brand is moving in the right direction as it constantly evolves?

Well, that’s easy for us because we are our customer! We live the same lives as them with the same values, problems and aims. For instance we started to sell reusable produce bags because we needed them ourselves. We also love talking to our customers and read every one of their suggestions or complaints ourselves.

If you could share one tip for someone who wants to live more ethically and sustainably in 2019 what would it be and why?

We would encourage people to ditch the disposables and watch the amount of packaging they buy. This can have the added bonus of forcing you to eat more healthily and to generate less food waste as well as less packaging waste. Use your lunchbox at the salad bar, deli or takeaway. Just remember to take it with you along with your water bottle and coffee cup!

What is your favourite product and why?

It’s the elephant box for sure. We use ours all the time. It’s a constant companion. It so useful for shoving some lunch in and particularly brilliant as it’s deep enough for an apple or an orange or a corn on the cob!! It’s also great for a takeaway curry or baked potato from a street food stall. Really, we’re not sure how we managed without it!

And finally, is there anything you would like to share with our readers?

We’d like to say ‘well done’ to everyone who has made the conscious effort to think about what they buy and how their actions affect the planet and the living things on it. Green living or low waste living is now a thing and we are very impressed by the speed at which this change is happening. People have really got on board. Taking your own bag to the supermarket or filling up your water bottle when you’re out and about are now pretty normal things to do. Hooray!! There is a way to go we know but we have the faith in people to continue to make the shift away from things like single use plastic. Kudos to you guys.
