Alice Styles Our Ethical Activewear

As an ethical brand Alice has always designed the Asquith collections with multifunctionality in mind. With that said over to Alice to share her favourite ways to style our AW19 collection for life both on and off the mat.

I discourage and dislike disposable fashion. My mother and grandmother made all our clothes for my sister and I when we were younger - in the best quality fabrics, in styles that lasted. They were alive during the war therefore I was brought up to deplore all kinds of waste, be it food, furniture or clothing.

I still have numerous items of clothing that my grandmother and mother designed for me and for themselves that I treasure, love and still wear today.

With Asquith I wanted to continue this mindset which is why I design clothes for yoga and Pilates, but also for living.

Here I want to show you how I wear Asquith off the mat and mix it with my existing wardrobe.

Flow With It Leggings Berry

I love a black polo neck. It goes with everything in my book. If in doubt or in a rush I’ll team it with a jacket, a statement necklace (this one was from a women’s co-operative I visited in South Africa when I was there 5 years ago now, it’s made from felt) knee high boots and jeans, or, in this case, my Asquith leggings.

The Flow With It Leggings are my favourite style and perfect for lifestyle wear. They’re high waisted, hold you in, and are so comfy. I chose this Berry colour because Yogis love a purple hue, it’s a great dark base for pinks but also looks good with black and grey.

Embrace Tee

I designed the Embrace Tee to be worn over our Conquer Cami as a cover up for a yoga/Pilates class, but I also love it as I’m wearing it here, as a slouchy, easy top.

It’s good for people like me with broad shoulders and a larger bust (because of the raglan sleeves) and flattering because it just skims over your waist. I’ve layered it here under my favourite grey cashmere cardi – a staple during the winter months!

Choosing colours is always fun but tricky. I find that people love to wear black because it’s easy and goes with everything but, each season I always try to find a alternative shade that works well for our pants. This season it’s Berry and Teal.

Teal is such a warm shade and looks great with most complexions. Actually, it’s more flattering than black (our teal Jumpsuit is a huge hit!). I love the colour here with the Embrace Tee because it’s fresh, yet elegant.

This is the sort of look I’d change into when I’ve been out at meetings all day – it’s comfortable but still looks elegant.

Long Sleeve Smooth You Tee

The Long Sleeve Smooth You Tee was such a hit when we launched it for AW18. It’s based on our bestselling Smooth You T-shirt style. Katie, who manages Asquith’s brand & communications, said to me in early 2018 “we need a winter version of our Smooth You Tee – with long sleeves - customers will love it!”

She was right. Here it is. Your feedback is so important to me. You said you loved it because it’s flattering, yet feminine and elegant. You can tuck it in or wear it long which I like it because it covers your tummy if you’re feeling a bit like you need it being covered up (i.e. after a big supper!) and it looks great under a smart jacket.

I love it here paired with jeans, a soft grey, long length jacket and my favourite snakeskin ankle boots.

Spirit Tee /  PJ Pants

I can’t tell you how often I wear my Asquith Spirit Tee’s. I’ve worn them to death this summer. I have one in every colour. I worked hard on the cut and designed them to be a great, hardworking basic.

I wear this Tee with jeans, skirts, or here with our new PJ’s. It washes well, doesn’t pill, dries fast if you lay it flat (no need to iron... I hate ironing!).

I love this vibrant red for AW19. It took me ages to find the right red but I have a lipstick in exactly the same shade so I thought it must be a sign that this is the right colour.

Pair it with a black jacket like this one, a Vintage M&S black satin, tuxedo which I bought from a charity shop in Woodstock, Oxfordshire about 10 years ago and you're good to go!

So, the PJ pants. Well, what’s not to like about PJ’s in bamboo fabric and in a leopard print? I wanted to design PJ’s that you could wear everywhere but that had a 50s glamorous edge to them.

They are so versatile. So comfy but luxurious. I also wear them in the daytime with a black polo neck and black silver studded boots.
