Wow Woman - Jo Wood

Introducing the fabulous Jo Wood, mother, businesswomen and founder of Jo Wood Organics. We sat down with Jo to discuss her favourite wellness tips, where she goes to switch off and why everyone should switch to all things organic.

What does ‘wellness’ mean to you?

Wellness to me is all encompassing it’s just not about what you put in your body it is what you put on your skin, what you eat, how you live, what you think, how do you clean your home, it’s all of those things it’s a state of mind.

What is your earliest wellness memory?

My earliest memory of wellness must be childhood holidays in Devon with the smell of the sea, running on the beach breathing clean fresh air, good food and happiness.

What are three things all women should know to better their health?

Remember that sugar feeds illness.

Stay away from dairy.

Staying away from all processed food. ( good food, good mood ).

For those who have not yet picked up a copy of ‘Naturally ” what can they expect to find?

You can find a basic guide to some of the first things that I learnt about organic living, health and happiness health.

At what point did you get into organic living? Was it a slow transition or an overnight necessity?

In 1991 I was misdiagnosed with Crohn’s disease and after two years on steroids, I met a wonderful guy called Gerald Green ( a fabulous herbalist ) who sat me down and told me about the chemicals on our food and the importance of not eating processed food.

He cleaned out my system with an organic diet on that day he changed my life forever.

What does living an organic life mean to you?

Organic life to me isn’t just about what you eat it’s how you think, it’s how you behave it is everything. It’s a way of life.

Can you share more about your love of the bees and why/how we can help to protect them?

Years ago I met a wonderful man who was a beekeeper at 95 years old! He kept bees all his life and I had many long conversations with him about the importance of the bees which really opened my eyes to just how amazing and vital these little things are to our planet. I am now lucky enough to be a Bee ambassador for friends of the earth – something I am very proud of.

What’s the most important thing you have learnt from nature?

The most important thing I have learnt from nature is that every second breath we take comes from the ocean and the other fresh air comes from the rainforest. Nature literally provides everything for us and it’s so often, very sadly taken for granted.

What gave you the idea for starting Jo Wood Organics and can you share a little more about the brand?

I got the idea of starting Jo Wood organics after my brother gave me a book called the Fragrant Pharmacy I started to make products in my bathroom with essential oils. I handwrote labels an gave them to my friends and then a very good friend of mine said ‘Jo you should do this properly for yourself, I looked around at the market there was nothing luxury and organic out there in 2004 so I thought it was time to give it a go.

If you had to choose one product from your collection, what would it be and why?

I love my organic body oil, it nourishes the skin, feeding and nourishing it on every level.

How do you ensure you always stay true to your core?

I remind myself that I don’t want to live any other way other than the way I am.

Everyone practices yoga for different reasons. When did you start and why?
