A new year is an opportunity for a new start and for us it’s all about making positive changes in your life, not just to benefit yourself but also to those around you.

If you haven’t fine-tuned your resolutions this new year we have created a list of things to be doing in 2018 to provoke a positive change in your life. Try one a month and let us know how you get on in the comments below.

1) Add a daily wellness habit to your routine

FlowersLooking after yourself should’t be a chore. Start with small simple changes to create new habits and go from there. Here are some of our favourites;

  • Drink more warm water. Did you know it’s better for you to drink warm or body temperature water? It’s less harsh on your stomach and your body doesn’t need to use energy to warm cold water up. Try adding a pinch of Himalayan salt to your first glass of the day to balance your mineral intake.
  • Body brush at least once a day to boost the immune system and leave you with silky smooth skin.
  • Step away from your computer over lunch and take a walk in nature to re-ground yourself.
  • Turn off your phone at least an hour before you go to bed.
  • Swap coffee for green tea.
  • Swap sugary snacks for those made with wholefoods or better yet learn how to make them yourself.

2) Get someone interested in yoga or Pilates.

Beach yoga at sunset. You may be a dedicated yogi but there is nothing more satisfying than getting a friend interested in your favourite class. Not only does this mean you can go together but you will also feel great knowing that they are enjoying all the same, incredible benefits you are.

3) Keep learning

Learning.Immerse yourself in trying something you have always been interested in or enroll on a course or workshop in something you have no idea about. Education is so often taken for granted so make this year one that is full of learning and expanding your knowledge.

4) Eat seasonally

Farmers market.Food is such an important part of life. We eat three times a day and what we put into our body effects us on both a nutritional and energetic level.
Eating local and organic foods will not only be better for your body but also for the environment as food travels less and no harmful chemicals are used. Download a seasonal food guide to get you started and start to read labels in supermarkets.

5) Shop better

BambooWe create our collections to last so to avoid the dangerous cycle of fast fashion. Look for clothes that are made from organic materials such as organic cotton and bamboo so that they are renewable, recyclable and last much longer. Find out more about our eco-fabics here…

6) Read more

ReadingThis year we are going to read more and we will be sharing our favourite books with you so you can read along with us. Switch everything off and read a chapter before bed or carve out 15 minutes from your day to sit back with a good book and get stuck into a new chapter.

7) Meditate

At team Asquith we are big fans of meditation, in particular Vedic Meditation, something that Alice has been practicing for many years. If you are new to meditation it can be very daunting but the effects are so amazing we want to encourage everyone to try it at least once. No matter how you meditate there are no right or wrong answers as long as you are sitting comfortably, breathing deeply and focusing on how you feel you can’t go wrong.

8) Pick up rubbish

RubbishHelp the planet and your local wildlife by picking up rubbish when you see it. Once you start you won’t believe how much there is on the streets and doing your bit will make a difference no matter how small it may seem.

9) Travel

Travel PlanningThere is nothing better for the soul than to experience new cultures and places. This year make a list of where you want to go and actually take the time out to go and explore a new city or a new country.

10) Keep a dream journal

The moonIf you are a dreamer then keeping a journal is the best way to evaluate your dreams and your sleep. Our mind works through and releases stress during our sleep so writing down these experiences can lead to a greater long term effect and also make for an interesting and reflective read.

11) Do something you have always wanted to do

Leanring to cookMake 2018 the year you do something you have always wanted to do. From sky diving to starting Pilates, learning to cook or finally becoming a yoga teacher. This year is the time to make it happen.

12) Find time for yourself

FlowersMost importantly this year make time for yourself. We live busy, hectic lives and it can be so hard to find time for ourselves so this year put some time in the diary and make sure you get it. It could be anything from a 30 minute class a day to a whole afternoon at the weekend and whatever you do in that time make sure it’s what you want to do for yourself and no one else.
