It’s almost the weekend which means lying in and indulging in some much needed self care but to help you relax one step further we asked some of our favourite yoga teachers to share with us the yoga poses to help you relax and unwind…
Child’s pose. Try moving your head from side to side to give your forehead a nice massage. Always a winner!
There are lots of yoga poses to help you relax in Restorative Yoga or Yin Yoga. A lot of yoga we see in studios today has a bigger emphasis on Yang which is the energy of action, doing. When the body needs relaxation the body needs more Yin energy, the stillness, the nurturing, the cooling. You can find this in Yin yoga or restorative yoga.
A simple and fast way to use yoga poses to help you relax is to lay your body to the earth either on the front or the back and just breathe. The release will come whilst your mind is focused and present. This turning inwards to the self enables a calm intuitive connection that closes off our main energy centres and flows calm throughout.
Pigeon pose or anything hip related as it’s perfect for opening up joints that become stiff from static lifestyles.
Savasana or Corpse Pose are both excellent yoga poses to help you relax. Lie down on your back, close your eyes, feel all the muscles relax, and rest. If you listen to some soft, calming music and don’t start thinking of what you have to do for the rest of the day, you really relax. But like any other Yoga pose, it requires practice to find stillness. I also find Puppy Stretch also knowns as Uttana Shishosana particularly relaxing. It is one of my favourite stretching pose.
