Going on retreat is one of the best things you can do for your mind, body and soul. Often we come back from holidays exhausted and in need of a few days break. Whether you need some head space or a break from reality, a retreat is the best way to slow down and focus on yourself. The end result? You will end up feeling on top of the world, lighter than when you arrived, and leave with a spring in your step. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your retreat:

CUT DOWN ON THE NAUGHTIES
On the week leading up to your retreat, it’s great to cut down on coffee, alcohol and all refined sugars. Most retreats will provide a caffeine and alcohol free environment, so it’s best to slowly reduce your intake instead of going cold turkey. Try to mindfully increase your water and whole foods intake to help you prepare your body for detoxification.

GO WITH AN OPEN MIND
Retreats are a space for self discovery, to meet new friends and try new foods and wellness experiences. Go with an open mind and open heart and don’t be afraid to try new things.

PACK THE CORRECT GEAR
Think comfort first when you’re packing your wardrobe for your retreat. You will spend most of your time in your activewear or loungewear. My go-to comfortable favourites are the Heavenly Harem Pants and Blissful Wrap Top. And don’t forget to pack your swimsuit for sauna and swimming sessions.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DAILY SCHEDULE
Retreats schedules are commonly jam packed with hikes, yoga classes, cooking classes and excursions. Take advantage of the being able to do multiple activities in a day – a time-luxury you may not have access to when back at home.

GO TO BED EARLY
After a day full of fitness and yoga activities, you’re probably going to feel very tired, but in a beautiful way. Make sure you get ample pillow time to restore your energy levels, ensuring you leave feeling rested.

HAVE A DIGITAL DETOX
Easier said than done, having some time away from technology is the best detox you can give yourself. Disconnect from all work emails and outside communication to re-focus your energy and gain a new perspective.

TAKE HOME SOME PRACTICES
Last but not least, take some of the new practices home with you. Getting up early for yoga can really set you up for the day! Bringing home at least one good habit is a great outcome for your retreat.
